BIOGRAPHY
Ophelia Oullié was born in Paris in 1973 and began studying dance at the age of four. At age eleven she entered the “Dance Conservatories” of Paris's 10th Arrondissement and Vincennes. At 13 her interest for a specific yoga posture led to an initiation to the art by an adept of Iyengar Yoga. She began a professional dance career at the age of 15 by participating in a European tour of "Swan Lake". Two years later she joined the "Jeune Ballet de France" before leaving for a two year engagement in Magdeburg (Germany). At the age of 23 an accident interrupted her dance career forever, but she refused to be deterred, continued to develop her skills as a choreographer and travelled extensively throughout Europe. In 2003 Ophelia conducted her first dance workshop in Dijon where she discovered her real calling… teaching. Soon thereafter she obtained her state certificates in Sports and Fitness Education and in Physical Training, and also received formal training in the Pilates method (original repertoire). In September of 2006 she began teacher's training under June Whittaker Pisano and Christian Pisano at the Iyengar Institute in Nice (France) and successfully completed her studies three years later. (photo above) During a stay in India in 2007 she met the philosopher Ramesh S. Balsekar in Mumbai and participated in an advanced class in Iyengar yoga in Dehradun. She became a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2009. Iyengar Yoga requires its teachers to participate in intensive internships and regular retreats so as to meet the spiritual and technical demands of the art. In November and December 2010 she travelled to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Puna (India) in order to further develop her professional skills and learn the art of the therapeutic adjustment. At the present time Ophelia continues to assist Christian Pisano and study under his guidance.
